FOSAAC held its 5th Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, September 6th 2008. The event took place in the
International Ballroom at Beverly Hilton Hotel, the venue for the Annual Golden Globe Awards of Hollywood. The
program was produced by Kevin Kaul, Chairman of FOSAAC, and scripted & directed by Nauzad Sadry, the
President of FOSAAC Entertainment & Media. FOSAAC founded in 2003, by Chairman Kevin Kishore Kaul,
attempts to integrate South Asian and American communities. This year’s Awards Banquet theme was the friendship of
United States and India and was attended by close to 600 invited guests.
The emcees for this evening, motivational speaker Grant Cardone and Hollywood actress Elena Lyons, contributed to
bridging the gap between the South Asian American communities and the American mainstream. The program opened
with the national anthems of the United States and India, followed by a welcome speech by Jagan Yelisetti, Gold
Sponsor & Executive Director of US Asia Business Forum Inc based in California.
The awards portion of the night’s program included distribution of 19 awards. These awards, named in honor of
influential South Asian individuals, are given to those who have made a mark on the world by doing well in their
respective careers as well as those who are dedicated to various humanitarian causes.
The recipient of the Kalpana Chawla Award for 2008 was given to Outstanding Woman of the Year and was awarded
to Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, in honor of her prolific career as well as her work for various environmental and humanitarian
causes. For her to accept the award personally is an honor as this was Mrs. Gandhi’s first trip to Los Angeles and she
so rarely travels outside of India.
Mike Honda, Vice Chair of the Democratic National
Committee (DNC) received the Dalip Singh Saund Award
for Outstanding Political Contribution to Indo-American
Society from Lee Baca, Sheriff of Los Angeles.
Other notable awardees included Anne Archer, Academy Award nominated actress for her role in Fatal
Attraction, was the recipient of the Mother Teresa Award for Outstanding Contribution to Society. Nancy
Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson and many other voices on “the Simpsons”, was awarded the Mahatma
Gandhi Award for Humanitarian of the Year. Two-time Emmy award winner, “the Young and the Restless”
actress Michelle Stafford, received the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Award for Outstanding Leadership.
Following the phenomenal success of the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August 2008, DNC
Vice-Chair Mike Honda was awarded the Dalip Singh Saund Award for his Outstanding Political
Contribution to Indo-American Society. Other notable awardees included Imran Khan, cricketer and
philanthropist who received the Mother Teresa award for Outstanding Contribution to Society. He was unable
to attend, but did accept the award and addressed the audience via a teleconference. The R. D. Burman
Award recipient music director Jatin Pandit, of the duo Jatin-Lalit, regaled the audience by singing some of the
song “Chand Sifarish” from the film “Fanaa” while accepting his award.
Honored chief guests for the evening were Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa & Los Angeles County
Sheriff Leroy Baca – A rare occurrence to see both attending the same event. Orange County Supervisor
Chris Norby was another Guest of the evening. Prior to the awards show a press conference was organized
where every awardee was interviewed by selected members of the press & media.
A major highlight of the evening was the Oscar-style presentation of all awards with its glamorous visuals &
laser show. The spectacular entertainment portion of the night’s festivities included wonderful performances by
acts from both American and Indian Communities: musical performances by Jierra Clark, Michael Duff, and
various musical selections played by violinist Andrea Hammond. In addition there were breath-taking
performances by the Fire Groove troupe of Hollywood, and sensational songs & dances by Indian performers
Nauzad Sadry, Noopur Dance Academy, and Rasalila.

The support of many sponsors, guests, and many hard-working individuals contributed to the
evening’s success. Without the continuing support of individuals such as Mr. Dave Katragadda
who was the Platinum sponsors, Mr. Hamilton Brewart, Mr. Shiv Grewal, Mr. Jagan Yelisetti
were the Gold Sponsors, Mr. B.U. Patel, Mr. Imaad Zuberi, Dr. Prem Reddy, Mr. Vic Ghai, Mrs.
Anne Tahim, Mr. Rattan Joea, Mr. Vijay Soni, Mr. Sheeraz Hasan, Malaysian Airlines, Mr. Ravi
Koneru Mr. Jimmy Sandhu were all Silver sponsors of this event. This event would not have been
as successful as well as the assistance of community leaders such as Mr. Yogesh Mehta, Mr.
Hashmath Malik, Mr. Chopin Chopra, and Mr. Natraj Reddy. Nor would it have been as grand as
an event without the support of the entire management & banquet staff at the Beverly Hilton.
FOSAAC Entertainment and Media, a brand new company, serves to produce films & manage
high-profile events. This show proved a fantastic launch pad for FOSAAC Entertainment & Media.
The show would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the founder of FOSAAC
Entertainment & Media, Nauzad & his team of Srinivas Ande, Punit Mehta, Divya Kapadia, Ram
Tasildar, Zubin Chichgar, Arish Dubash & all volunteers. Sincere gratitude to Madhu Sharma &
Sammy Chand for their timely assistance. A special thanks to Ben Singh & Gary Singh of Sir
Speedy printers for their excellent banners & brochures, to Paul Sukhwal & HollyCal Productions
for their videography, and to Surendra Prakash of Photomagicroom.com, for always making
